// Beyond the website

When the website stops being the whole job.

Most businesses reach a point where the bottleneck is not the shopfront — it is the spreadsheet holding the company together behind it. That is a different kind of build, and it is one we already do.

// 01 Corporate identity

A logo is the smallest part of it.

Identity is the set of decisions that make everything you produce look like it came from the same company — the palette, the type, the tone, and the rules for using them. Get it settled once and every invoice, vehicle, sign and web page afterwards is easier and cheaper to produce.

Marks & lockups

A primary mark, a horizontal lockup, a stacked version, an icon for a favicon and a social avatar, and single-colour variants for embroidery, signage and vinyl. Supplied as vector, so nothing ever needs redrawing.

Palette, type & rules

Exact values for screen and for print, a type pairing with weights and sizes fixed, and a short document saying what may and may not be done. Short enough that a signwriter will actually read it.

The quick brown fox
Display — serif, 600
Body copy set at sixteen pixels, with a measure of about sixty-five characters and generous line height.
Body — sans, 400
Where this usually starts. Nine times out of ten a client comes for a website and discovers halfway through that they have four versions of their logo, none of them vector, and no idea which blue is the right blue. Settling that first makes the website faster to build and everything afterwards cheaper.
// 02 Business systems

The spreadsheet that runs the company.

Every growing business has one. It has forty tabs, one person understands it, and it breaks when they go on leave. Replacing it is not glamorous work, but it is usually the highest-value thing we build for anybody.

// ERP

What the business runs on

Quoting, job costing, stock, purchase orders, invoicing and the reporting that ties them together. Built around how you actually work rather than forcing you into somebody else's workflow.

// CRM

Who the business talks to

Clients, contacts, enquiries, pipeline and history — so the answer to "what did we quote them last year" takes four seconds rather than an afternoon in an inbox.

// Automation

The work nobody should do twice

Enquiries routed from the website into the pipeline, invoices emailed and chased on schedule, reports produced without anybody assembling them by hand on a Friday.

// 03 What it looks like

Plain, fast, and built for people who are busy.

No dashboard nobody reads, no charts for the sake of charts. The screen below is an illustrative mock-up of an invoicing module for a fictional company — the layout and the thinking are real, the data is not.

An illustration, not a client system. Example Co. is invented and every figure above is fabricated. We do not publish screenshots of the real systems we build — the businesses running on them would rather we didn't, and quite rightly.
// 04 How it usually goes

Nobody starts here.

This is a ladder, not a package. Most clients arrive on the first rung and climb it over two or three years, as and when a particular piece of the business starts to hurt.

01

A website that works

The shopfront. Enquiries arrive by email and somebody answers them.

Weeks · one person
02

Identity settled properly

Logo, palette, type and rules — so everything produced afterwards matches.

Weeks · one person
03

Enquiries stop getting lost

A CRM behind the website. Every enquiry logged, assigned and followed up.

Months · a small team
04

The spreadsheet retires

Quoting, invoicing, stock and job costing in one place, with real reporting.

Months · a growing team
05

The work runs itself

Automation across the seams: routing, reminders, scheduled reports, client portals.

Which rung are you on?

If the honest answer is "the spreadsheet still works, mostly", that is a perfectly good place to be — start with the website. If it stopped working eighteen months ago, we should talk sooner.
